Tax override to go before voters

By Sharron Luttrell

Voters will face a $1.1 million Proposition 2 ½ override question to fund the schools next month.

The Select Board and the Finance Committee voted last night to put the override question before voters while approving a $27.3 million general operating budget for Fiscal Year 2027.

The question must pass at both Annual Town Meeting and the town election the following week to become effective.

If approved, the override will add $453.19 to the annual tax bill for a single-family home worth  $664,496 – the average in Mendon. That equates to $68.20 per $100,000 of assessed property value per year.

Town Administrator Jeremy Stull noted that the assessed value is often different than the market value, so homeowners should check their property card on the Board of Assessors website.

Check back next week as Mendon Commons takes a deeper dive into the school and town budget and the potential impact on taxpayers, town services and education.
