  • Seniors hear presentation on region’s history

Mendon seniors were absolutely captivated recently by “Museum on the Road!”

Docent Rachael from the Woonsocket Museum of Work & Culture delivered a wonderful presentation — sponsored by Landmark Medical Center and the RI Historical Society — filled with images, videos and real artifacts from our region’s mill history.

What was planned as a one‑hour program happily stretched to a full 90 minutes as Rachael answered questions, shared stories, and swapped memories with our group. Her enthusiasm and knowledge made the afternoon truly brilliant.

Next up in our History Series: A special visit to the Ammidon Inn on April 28th. Contact the Mendon Senior Center to register and for full details.

Group relaunches Flags of Honor Program

The Mendon Brothers of the Brush is taking orders for American flag banners honoring military members and veterans.

The banners will line the Memorial Day parade route, which runs from Eastern Security Safe at 23 Providence Street to Maple Street and along Rte. 16 to Main Street, ending at town hall.

“The brothers wanted to do something to add to the solemnity of our Memorial Day parade ceremonies,” member Rich Schofield said of the local organization’s Flags of Honor Program.

At 30 x 60 inches, the double-sided banners are larger than in the past and include either a photo of the honoree or a silhouette of the Concord Minuteman statue within a circle of 13 stars.

The banners will remain in place for two years between Memorial and Veterans days before being returned to their purchasers. There are 52 available for $250 each with an ordering deadline of March 29.

Visit the Brothers of the Brush website for more information or download the order form. Order forms are also available at the Taft Library, Mendon Post Office, the senior center and town hall. Questions may be sent to mendonbrush@gmail.com with “Flag Committee” anywhere in the subject line.

  • Town officials want Mendon to read all about it

The town has launched a quarterly newsletter to keep residents in the loop about what’s happening in town hall and beyond.

The inaugural edition of the quarterly Town of Mendon Newsletter was released Thursday. It features local updates, staff and board profiles and department highlights.

“For our first edition, I’m pretty proud of it,” Town Administrator Jeremy Stull said.

The publication emerged from the select board’s goal to improve communication to residents. The town debuted the Town of Mendon, MA Facebook page a little over a year ago as another way to get information out.

Stull said he’s hoping townspeople will reach out with suggestions for the newsletter and said he’d like to feature a Q&A in future editions.

The newsletter is available through the town administrator’s page.
