Candidates begin pulling papers for May town election

Nine potential candidates have taken out nomination papers so far for 13 open seats that will appear on the annual town election ballot in May, according to Town Clerk Ellen Agro. Signed papers are due back to her by March 31.

To date, no one has requested papers for the one-year term on the Parks Commission or the openings on the Water Commission and the Board of Health.

Anyone wishing to run for an elected board or office must be a Mendon resident and a registered voter. Candidates must collect 28 signatures from registered Mendon voters to be added to the ballot.

Offices slated to be voted on in the May 19 annual town election are:

  • Moderator – one-year term
  • Select Board– three-year term (two seats)
  • Board of Assessors – three-year term
  • Board of Health – three-year term
  • MURSD School Committee – three-year term
  • Parks Commission – one-year term
  • Parks Commission – two-year term
  • Parks Commission – three-year term
  • Planning Board – five-year term
  • Taft Library Trustees– three-year term (two seats)
  • Water Commission – three-year term
