The Board of Health voted at a recent meeting to continue the senior trash discount program. However, it will limit eligible households to four adults. Previously, there was no cap on the number of people living in households that participate in the discount program.
The program reduces trash fees for residents 65 or older by 50%, bringing the total to $214 per year.
The board solicited feedback about the program through a mailed survey to residents. Results showed that 62% of survey respondents were satisfied with the discount for seniors, but half supported limiting the number of adults per household receiving the discount.
Residents 65 and older may apply for the senior trash discount program by returning the application form with their annual town census form.
