The state project to repair the closed Mendon Road bridge in Northbridge will see construction begin this summer, after the Department of Transportation awarded a $2.2 million contract to MIG Corporation of Acton.
The work is expected to take approximately 15 months, according to Mass DOT spokesman John Goggin.
“The project will fully rehabilitate the bridge, improve safety features, and extend its service life for years to come,” Goggin wrote in an email.
The bridge was closed in July 2025 when inspectors found it was no longer safe to hold traffic. Built in 1959, the steel and concrete span carries traffic over the West River. The closure has resulted in a lengthy detour for traffic between Mendon and Northbridge. Mendon Road becomes Northbridge Road in Mendon, ending at North Avenue.
The state posted a request for proposals on April 27, with a deadline of May 19.
